Chris Johnson
I have tended to concentrate on coaching 6 to 10 year olds and was one of very few coaches providing specialist cricket coaching for this age group back in the 1970’s. I believe cricket should at all times be fun and aim to install a love of the game in players which will make them want to play more, practice more and thereby improve their playing ability. My aim , as a coach, is quite simply turning kids into cricketers. Hopefully over the years I have succeeded with this a few times! More recently, I have specialised in helping older children make the transition from junior to adult cricket. This is an area which I see as being neglected by many clubs and one of my favourite parts of being a coach is witnessing young players (who I may have known and coached for several years) taking their first tentative steps in proper league cricket. Another is seeing or hearing of, people that I remember coaching, who are still playing and enjoying the game many years later. Still an active cricketer, I have vast playing experience from representative levels downwards and encompassing all levels of club cricket. In the photo above Chris is seen about to deliver for Henley Cricket Club. Fielding behind Chris is a young player Chris has coached since the age of 6! An action shot of proof for Chris's fantastic commitment in developing juniors into adult cricketers. |
